Medicinal Herbal Garden

Among the ancient civilizations, India is renowned for its rich repository of medicinal plants. Indian forests are the main reservoir of a large number of medicinal and aromatic plants, most of which are harvested as raw materials for the manufacture of medicines and perfumes. Medicinal plants have played an important role in human health care as essential components of traditional medicines for thousands of years. Traditional systems of medicine continue to be widely practiced in many aspects.
 

Realizing the importance of medicinal plant garden, the college authority decided to prepare a medicinal plant garden. The creation of the garden began in 2016 under the direction of the Chairman, Principal and other faculty members.
 

Currently, there is a medicinal plant garden in the campus of SVCE. The Medicinal Plant garden is situated within an area of almost 400 square feet The garden is protected from intruders. The garden is tended all year round by a dedicated gardener. It is regularly fertilized and pest controlled. The teachers also take part in various plantation programmes organized by the college administration.

The motto of this medicinal plant garden is not only to cultivate and protect plants but also to create awareness among the students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the institution. As part of the awareness program, a few tree-planting program was also conducted for students as well as the general public.

Some of the Medicinal Plants planted in the Herbal Garden of the college are:

  • Ocimum basilicum- Basil 

  • Cinnamomum tamala- Bay Leaves

  • Aloe barbadensis miller- Aloe Vera
